“I have always been concerned about public welfare for disadvantaged children, and worked with some movie & TV programs about orphaned or impoverished children. So when l learned that Chunhui Children is committed to helping vulnerable children, I gave it special attention. Then I had opportunities to visit Chunhui mamas and their young charges. The first time I saw them, I felt piercing pain. Those small lovely babies are given up by their parents because of their physical or mental impairments. But as I learned more about Chunhui programs, I found that although they are born less than perfect, they are lucky to have professional caring Chunhui mamas by their side. I am impressed. And I hope that more and more of us come to help these children, from the bottom of our hearts. I believe you will find that nothing is sweeter than when you receive a nice card of best wishes from a child you have helped, telling you how you have made her life better, “ said actress Zhang Junning via the video.

Zhang ended her sharing by calling on the public to join in charity. Small acts of caring have a big impact and can help make the world a better place, she said.

“‘Chunhui mama’ is not only a name for one of our programs, but also the unified title of thousands of front-line program staff in our partner welfare institutions. They are mothers, and teachers too. Chunhui Children’s three core concepts, namely responsive care, secure attachment and enriching learning environment, help the orphaned children in welfare institution flourish in ways that work best for them. Each Chunhui mama has a perfect command of the three concepts. They put the diagnoses of doctors out of their mind and believe in the unlimited potentials of their children. In the past 20 years, we have brought miraculous changes to children struggling with such special needs as CP or autism. As a growing share of the children in welfare institutions suffer from special needs, Chunhui Children will make consistent efforts to perfect all of its programs. Its goal is for inclusive education embracing the “life-long management of the whole child” philosophy to be accessible to all children, “ Secretary-general Liu Shan shared.

“In the past 20 years, we have been focusing on child care & education programs in partner welfare institutions, which have won recognition with eminent achievements. A generation of 24,632 Chunhui women have brought nurturing motherly care to 171,518 orphaned children. To date, Chunhui Mama Program has covered all 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China. Additionally, we operate Chunhui Care Home in Beijing and Shanghai, and run Chunhui Village Program in 57 villages of central China. We are still reaching out to more children in need. Up to now, our programs have directly benefited 196,000 children and impacted 650,000 others. Because of Chunhui Mama Program, the percent of orphaned children adopted from welfare institutions has increased to 12% (The national average is 5%),” said Liu.

Chunhui Children’s vision is that each child has a loving adult in his/her life. Liu Shan has the same dream. ”We will never stop fighting for this dream,” she said.
