Love in the Fun Summer

The story happened in 2022 summer. If Min’s memory about that part of her life fades away, that must be because she is too happy to remember what she went through almost a year ago. Hope Min could, like her Chunhui mama, keep love deep in her heart.

The story of Min and her little friends

“On those lovely magical summer days, my little friends and I lived at Chunhui Care Home.

We—Summer days

CHUNHUI CARE HOME

We ate, laughed, played and received loving care from Chunhui mamas together.

We suffer from different special needs, but we have something in common ----we all come from welfare institutions.

Junjun

Junjun loved to lie under the bed because he had trouble communicating. ‘He will get well, so long as we all love him,’ said his Chunhui mama.

Little Guang

Guang was a fair-skinned little boy. Although his eyes kept quivering without control, we liked him and he liked us. We enjoyed running and playing together, and we heard his hearty laughter all the time.

Rongrong

Rongrong said she had lived at CCH before and went back here this time to have the orthotic devices of her legs adjusted. She was my sweet sister and we shared everything.

Mingming

Mingming was an adorable toddler with cleft lip and palate. When he first arrived at CCH, the timid little boy liked to sit in front of the railing and look at others through it. Then he received a surgery which repaired his lip and palate. His bright lovely smiles captured our hearts.

Guoguo

Guoguo was a fan of short sharp sounds, so she often dropped bowls on the floor. ‘We need help her, talk to her and play with her,’ said her Chunhui mama. Sure enough, before long, the little girl started to change. She stopped dropping bowls and instead sat down quietly, reading picture books, learning nursery rhymes or building blocks with other children.

What about me?

I enjoyed catching some rays in front of the French window. Rongrong and I spent time together taking baths and drying our hair with an air blower. I played seek and hide with Little Guang and I won each time. Every night, my Chunhui mama held me in her arms and put me to sleep. And each morning, I helped wake up other children who slept in.

We all hate to see a doctor. A surgery would hurt so much. But the doctor said if we were brave and tough enough, we would be cured. So, we kept encouraging each other. Each time one of us was prepared to see a doctor, the others would say: “come on, keep fighting!”

Summertime flew. Some of the children were cured and returned to their institutions safe and sound as if they had never been sick. Then new children came and I became the “most senior” little master of CCH.

I stayed so long because after I put on the cochlear implant system, I still needed consistent language training. I’d hang in there until I would hear sound and learn to speak. I believed love would bring sound to my world.

I stayed until the winter of 2022.

You want to know where I am now? I have a big family of my own, my dad, my mom, my siblings and our pets…… They all love me dearly.”

In the far future, will Min still remember that special summer at CCH? Maybe or maybe not. But she will never forget how it feels to love and be loved, I believe.
